Academic Achievement
October was a powerful month of growth at GLES! Our professional development centered on Explicit Instruction, a cornerstone of our School Support Plan. Teachers engaged in a full day of learning focused on aligning objectives, instructiona delivery, and rigor. We're proud to share that we've reached 95% implementation of Step 1 in Explicit Instruction-an incredible milestone! With continued momentum, we're pushing toward 100% implementation, knowing this will directly elevate scholar achievement.
Learning Environment
Our scholars are showing up strong! Positive behaviors are on the rise, as reflected in our increased distribution of ROAR points. This contributed to a 47% decrease in disciplinary infractions compared to last month-a huge win for our school climate. We also launched our monthly Henrico Heroes mentoring program, led by our amazing counselors, Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Rice. Families joined us for a joyful breakfast event where we shared free reading resources, magnetic letters, and books to support literacy at home.
Physical, Social, Emotional, & Mental Health
Red Ribbon Week was a vibrant celebration of healthy choices and community spirit! Scholars and staff alike embraced the theme of living responsibly and safely. We capped off the month with a fantastic Trunk or Treat and Book Fair, welcoming over 150 attendees. These events reflect our dedication to supporting scholars minds, bodies, and hearts in meaningful and joyful ways
Recruit, Engage, Retain & Reward Staff
This month we welcomed 1 additional KG teacher to our team as our KG numbers have grown. Additionally, 4 GLES teachers visited Greenwood Elementary to observe high-impact instructional practices and routines. These peer learning opportunities empower our educators with fresh strategies and inspiration. We're also grateful to our PTA and community partners who showered our staff with treats and appreciation-thank you for helping us celebrate the incredible work our team does every day!
